Petrified Wood (119676)

Petrified wood is absolutely incredible to look at, also known as crystallised or fossalized wood, it does not actually contain wood that has become stone, instead it is the imprint of the wood that has been left and replaced by silicon dioxide. Robert Simmons writes that 'if wood after death, is quickly covered with fine grain sedimentary rock this allows for petrification, which preserves a large proportion of the original form of the wood'.

From a protected ethically mined Indonesian source measures 24" x 5". This piece is millions of years old. Weighs 10 kilos.
