Zardosi wall hangings

Zardosi wall hangings are traditionally made in India by women, at home, from recycled antique sari fragments, beads, silk, glitter and felt. It takes a great deal of skill to sew the pieces together. Zardosi embroidery was once used to embellish the attire of the Kings and the royals in India. It was also used to adorn walls of the royal tents, scabbards, wall hangings and the paraphernalia of regal elephants and horses. Zardosi embroidery has been in existence in India from the time of the Rig Veda.

The women and their communities benefit directly from the purchasing of these pieces. Each hanging is unique and cannot be replicated.

Such work can be hung on the wall or laid flat on a table. Mine is placed, along with my crystals on my altar. There is something special about each piece, something sacred and precious. The skills involved stretching far back through time.
