Turquoise from the Sleeping Beauty mine (1114801)

A beautiful piece of Turquoise set in silver, measuring 1.25" x 0.75". The stone originates from the legendary Sleeping Beauty mine. 

The name turquoise is related to the fact that it was brought to Europe from the Eastern Mediterranean by Levantine traders, more commonly known as Turks.  It’s been highly prized for thousands of years and was used by the ancient Egyptians, Persians, Aztecs and American Indians.

The colour is, of course, turquoise, but its range varies from green and greenish blue to sky-blue shades, which may be why it is seen as the stone of hope, as it can remind one of wide-open skies.

The Aztecs mined turquoise in what is now New Mexico, and a significant amount of turquoise comes from Arizona, California, and Nevada in the United States.

The colour turquoise is refreshing, calming, grounding and patient.

Turquoise is considered a stone of peace that helps reduce nervousness, tension, and stress. The gem promotes empathy, sensitivity and positive thinking. It is also highly protective.
