Kunzite & Moonstone set in silver (1114542)

An absolutely beautiful piece of jewellery. Two faceted stones, Kunzite and Moonstone (from Madagascar), set in silver.

Measures 1.25” x 0.25”.

Kunzite is the pink variety of spodumene. It is a fairly young gem geologically and has only been known for the past 100 years or so. Discovered by a New York jeweller and gemstone specialist, George Frederick Kunz (1856 – 1932), he became the first person to give a comprehensive description of this stone, which had just been discovered in California, hence its name Kunzite after "Kunz". Its pinkish hue comes from trace amounts of manganese. A very uplifting stone that encourages inner peace, love and joie de vivre or the joy of living.

Moonstone is a variety of feldspar. It is recognised by the play of light or shimmer, which always looks different when the stone moves. The shimmer of Moonstone is caused by refracted light rays within the stone. Many cultures have attached myths to this stone and held it in great spiritual significance. Throughout history, the core theme associated with Moonstone is its connection to the moon, fertility, femininity, and the Goddess. One of my favourite stories about this crystal is that the Romans believed Moonstone was magically created from the rays of moonlight.
