Opal

The word Opal comes from various roots; Sanskrit 'Upala' meaning precious stone, Greek 'Opallios' meaning to observe color change and Latin 'Opalus' meaning seeing jewel. It has a rich history which has always admired the mesmerizing beauty it holds. There is one story of the Australian Aborigines who gave the name Rainbow Serpent to Opal and believed that "The Creator took the colors of the rainbow, and put them into stone to make opal". Through out all traditions and cultures, there are similar stories of reverence for this remarkable gem.
